Kantara 2 crosses Rs 115 crore in just nine days, marking a new milestone for the franchise

Aamir Khan has long been a trailblazer in Bollywood’s box office history, creating the Rs 100, Rs 200, and Rs 300 crore clubs with his blockbuster films. His 2008 hit Ghajini, directed by A.R. Murugadoss and co-starring Asin and Jiah Khan, was the first Bollywood movie to enter the Rs 100 crore club, earning a lifetime total of Rs 114 crore.

Now, Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 has achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing Ghajini’s lifetime collection in just nine days. The film’s Hindi version has collected Rs 115.75 crore, setting a new benchmark for regional cinema crossing over into the national market.

A sequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which grossed nearly Rs 310 crore worldwide, the new installment has proven to be an even bigger hit. Unlike the first film, whose Hindi release came two weeks after its southern debut, Kantara 2 was released simultaneously across all markets — a move that clearly paid off.

The film opened strong with Rs 18.5 crore on day one, followed by Rs 12.5 crore on day two, Rs 19.5 crore on day three, and Rs 23 crore on Sunday. During the weekdays, it maintained steady momentum, earning Rs 8.75 crore on day five, Rs 11.25 crore on day six, Rs 8.25 crore on day seven, Rs 7 crore on day eight, and another Rs 7 crore on day nine.

With its Hindi collection now at Rs 115.75 crore, Kantara 2 has officially edged past Ghajini, securing the 105th position on the list of highest-grossing Hindi films. Industry experts predict that the film could climb at least ten more spots by the end of its second weekend.

Featuring Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram, and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles, Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 ends on a powerful note, with the makers already confirming that a third part of the franchise is in development.
